Dining Experience
Since I’m allergic to dairy, egg, wheat, fish, most tree nuts, sesame seed, mustard seed, barley, avocado, kiwi, and most seeds, I was really nervous to eat out at restaurants while traveling in London this summer. Thankfully, my mom heard about wagamama from an allergy blog, so my family decided to give it a try.
As soon as we sat down, our waiter asked if anyone had food allergies and walked us through wagamama’s allergy procedure. This included writing down my allergies on a card fixed to my table so that any staff member would be aware of them. When I ordered, the waiter used an allergy guide on an iPad to filter the menu down to items that were safe for me, taking his time to make sure nothing was missed. They even had a gluten-free menu I could look at prior to ordering. It also helped that the UK recognizes 14 top allergens rather than 9 (celery, cereals containing gluten, crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, peanuts, sesame, soybeans, sulphur dioxide and sulphites, and tree nuts), which means a wider range of allergies can be recognized and accommodated when dining out. Every item I ordered, the item came out labeled with a red starred tag to indicate it was allergy-friendly. Even my water had one!
Overall, I had a really safe and positive experience at wagamama tower place, so positive that I went back to another location later that week. If you have food allergies and are nervous about dining out in London, I’d highly recommend giving wagamama a try.
